Daily Hunt

Daily Hunt · Friday, September 4, 2026 · Reference cutoff 8:00 AM ET

Retrospective research sample · Not a live alert. Pre-market gamma and synchronized cross-asset quotes are incomplete. The scenarios illustrate conditional plans, not executed trades.

The Two Minute Trader

  1. NQ led the range extension; ES has not confirmed it. NQU6 finished the minute before 8:00 ET at 29,683.25, above its Asia high of 29,643.75. ESU6 remained inside 7,750.50–7,764.50. Watch whether NQ retains that extension and ES breaks its own range.
  2. Payrolls at 8:30 ET is the next test. Let the release and opening reaction develop. The illustrative index scenarios begin after 9:45 ET: an ES break-and-retest above 7,764.50, or an NQ failed reclaim below 29,643.75. Each requires the full confirmation rules below. Invalid: a five-minute close beyond the qualifying retest extreme.
  3. Cross-asset confirmation matters. Check rates and the dollar alongside the index reaction; lower yields alone do not establish an equity buying opportunity. Gold and earnings watches need their own prices and triggers. No gamma-dependent entry qualifies from the available historical map.

1 · After the Bell — yesterday's review

No prior-day review accompanies this historical sample. Read the paired After the Bell edition to follow these scenarios through the close.

2 · What matters today

Nasdaq extended during London. The S&P futures range stayed contained.

During the defined Asia window, NQU6 traded as high as 29,643.75. London reached 29,704.50 and its final minute closed 39.50 points above the Asia high. ESU6's London high and low both stayed within its earlier range. That is a difference in price behavior, not proof of broad market participation or a profitable relative-value trade.

The August employment report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET. Read unemployment, wages and revisions alongside payrolls. A softer report could support rate relief; severe weakness could instead raise growth concerns. A firmer report could pressure that relief thesis. The market reaction must distinguish those cases. No verified consensus is supplied here, so no numerical surprise threshold is assigned. BLS calendar

3 · Levels / gamma — SPX, ES, NQ

Contract Asia low–high London low–high
ESU6 7,750.50–7,764.50 7,754.75–7,764.00
NQU6 29,495.00–29,643.75 29,575.25–29,704.50

Asia: 09:00–16:00 Tokyo, or 00:00–07:00 UTC. London: 08:00–13:00 London, or 07:00–12:00 UTC. These are research windows, not full exchange sessions. Databento minute bars cover every minute in both windows for each contract. The wider ES overnight window has one missing minute, so its full range is unconfirmed. Data conventions

Reference Available at the sample cutoff
SPX cash Previous cash-session close and range unavailable in this sample. SPX has no overnight cash session.
SPX call/put walls, flip and GEX No reliable pre-market model snapshot for this sample; walls, flip and GEX are unavailable.
ES call/put walls, flip and GEX No reliable gamma levels for this futures contract at the sample cutoff.
NQ call/put walls, flip and GEX No reliable gamma levels for this futures contract at the sample cutoff.
Max pain / pin and expiry scope Unavailable at the sample cutoff; neither is inferred from the gamma walls.

The hunt: ES's Asia high is the upside reference; NQ's Asia high is the reference for a failed extension. A touch is not confirmation. Pre-market gamma is unavailable for this historical sample.

4 · Signals with Invalid

Illustrative scenario rules, not active recommendations. Use completed five-minute bars aligned to Eastern Time.

  1. Confirmation. Confirmation means two consecutive closes strictly beyond the stated level, with the first bar starting at or after 9:45 ET.
  2. Retest. Then use the first subsequent bar whose low-to-high interval includes the level as the retest. If that first retest does not close on the required side, cancel the scenario for the day.
  3. Entry window. Entry is the following bar open, strictly before noon ET.
  4. Choose one. ES and NQ are alternatives: first qualifying entry only; if both qualify simultaneously, stand down on both. No re-entry.

ESU6 — extension joins the move

Require two closes above 7,764.50, followed by a retest closing above it. The next open must be above both 7,764.50 and the retest low; otherwise cancel. That open defines the illustrative entry.

Invalid: first subsequent five-minute close below the retest low; exit at the next available bar open. Target: entry plus twice the distance from entry to retest low. Exit any remainder at 3:45 PM ET. This is a price-only scenario; SPX or gamma confirmation is not implied.

NQU6 — extension fails

Require two closes below 29,643.75, followed by a retest closing below it. The next open must be below both 29,643.75 and the retest high; otherwise cancel. That open defines the illustrative short entry.

Invalid: first subsequent five-minute close above the retest high; exit at the next available bar open. Target: entry minus twice the distance from entry to retest high. Exit any remainder at 3:45 PM ET. London's low of 29,575.25 is context, not an additional exit rule.

For both scenarios, targets assume an exit order resting at the target price. Gaps, trading costs and uncertain fills can change the result. Waiting for a closing price to confirm an Invalid can produce a loss larger than the entry-to-Invalid reference distance. These are hypothetical plans; no outcome is calculated here.

Opportunity watches — cross-asset and earnings

  • Gold / dollar: evaluate gold resilience if yields rise, or confirmation if yields and the dollar fall. Thesis Invalid: the proposed supportive macro move occurs but gold fails to respond. No synchronized gold quote or executable entry is established.
  • Earnings / LULU: annual revenue guidance fell to $10.350–10.500 billion, from $11.000–11.150 billion in June. Quarterly EPS of $2.92 includes a $0.86 tariff-refund and interest benefit; the headline alone does not establish stronger operating performance. September results · June guidance. Watch for a failed recovery after the open. Countercase: price may already discount the weaker outlook. Thesis Invalid: a recovery sustains above its opening range instead of failing. The gap, valuation and borrow are unverified here; no short entry is assigned.
  • Relative value: NQ's extension versus ES containment is a comparison, not an arbitrage. No hedge ratio, synchronized entry or combined risk rule is supplied, so no pair position is proposed.

5 · Watch-outs + Bias sheet

Calendar: payrolls September 4 at 8:30 AM ET; PPI September 10 and CPI September 11, both at 8:30 AM ET. Labor Day falls September 7. BLS schedule

Exposure: an index long and a gold long may depend on the same rates-relief premise. Different instruments need not mean independent risks. Friday intraday scenarios do not imply a weekend hold.

Bias sheet: Equities—NQ extension, ES containment; await the event reaction. Rates/USD—confirmation variables, no fresh directional call. Gold—conditional watch. Energy/FX/crypto/credit—not assessed in this sample; no directional view is assigned.
